Even I, the editor/writer of this blog, am quite unsure what is going to transpire on these pages tomorrow, let alone a week or two from now. Marcus Fischer‘s Arctic/Antarctic (Luxx) is a lovely thought-provoking ambient work. The first series of recordings, “Arctic” is broken up into three parts with guitar loops, tape recorders looped and re-looped, and a tiny toy piano. Though split apart, the “arctic” tracks do flow together as one.”Tropic”, the shortest piece on the album, intentionally uses the recording of wind quite nicely. “antarctic” begins with a pulsating drone — is that even possible? — and then loops, more drones and peacefulness for another 16 minutes. Fischer’s triptych is utterly mesmerizing. Also, highly recommend Fischer’s self-released work as map~map, For Friends This Winter. [...]

[...] as promised, here is a sound sample of something that i started working on using recordings that i have collected from the ceramic bird feeder that we have hanging from our front porch. you can really hear the bird’s beaks tapping and pushing the bird seed around inside the feeder. i had set my digital recorder to automatically begin recording when the contact mic picked something up. after two days i had about a hundred samples ranging from 5 to 25 seconds. i have only gone through about thirty of them at this point (the recording above uses 12). Often being quiet ‘frustrated” because not finding the right time or inspiration to create, this blog gives me motivation ! And your audio tracks really need to be grouped in an album, if it isn’t.

i used to have a blue 74 bronco but like a fool i traded it for a danelectro +10 years ago. i can’t believe how much they go for these days. i love the bronco/mustang/musicmaster body style so i was excited when i found this one on ebay.
brian, i don’t really have a studio proper anymore. my stuff moves around from my basement to my living room to the unrecognizable now space downtown. someday i’ll get my basement organized and set more of it back up.

Really nice sounding! I have found if you have the right guitar setup you can get really nice tones from an ebow. The ebow isn’t good on my Rickenbacker 12-string or Fender Jaguar, but sounds great on my Epiphone Riviera (going through gain, compression, delay and reverb).

Something about the video reminds me a bit of those action photo series (running horse, etc)… I always loved those! Really nice, so cool that you are still finding time for your projects.
